The GICC Is a One Of A Kind Facility

The Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) is proud to be Georgia’s newest and second largest convention center. And now the GICC has even more exciting distinctions on the horizon.

The Direct Connection

With its close proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA), this state-of-the-art facility is about to become the first convention center in the country with a direct connection to the airport. This connection will enable event attendees to fly into the airport, disembark their plane and arrive at the front door of the GICC, all without ever getting in a taxi, bus or shuttle.

The project making this possible is the Automated People Mover (APM), a new light rail train currently under construction to transport travelers from H-JAIA to the airport’s new Consolidated Rental Car Agency Complex (CONRAC). The 1.4 million square foot CONRAC will be the centralized car rental headquarters for Hartsfield-Jackson. The great news for GICC patrons is that the second station of the APM will be at the front door of the GICC, making it even easier to access the impressive facility.

The Hotels Are Coming

Last Fall, the GICC hosted the groundbreaking celebration for two new convention center hotels that will be built on the GICC campus. The hotels include a new full-service, 403-room Marriott and 147-room SpringHill Suites – the first of its brand to be LEED-certified. Both hotels are slated to open in 2010.

The groundbreaking celebration was held jointly by developer Grove Street Partners and the City of College Park to celebrate the beginning of construction of two new hotels that will anchor Grove Street’s one-million-square-foot, mixed-use development called the Gateway Center.

Gateway Center, which will include office buildings and retail stores, is located a quarter-mile from H-JAIA and a few steps from the first station on the airport’s expanded APM system.

Perfect Location, Incredible Amenities

Located adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson and just 10 minutes from downtown Atlanta, the GICC offers 400,000 square feet of flexible meeting space to accommodate every need. The 150,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall is divisible into four separate halls and can fit over 800 10’x10’ booths. Best of all, the GICC boasts Georgia’s largest ballroom—40,000 square feet with room enough to seat over 3,000 guests.

For those who love great cuisine, the GICC has one of the finest culinary arts centers in the Southeast. The 9,800 square foot, state-of-the-art kitchen is managed by Georgia’s top caterer, Proof of the Pudding and headed by acclaimed Executive Chef, Delroy Bowen. The GICC culinary arts team is rapidly becoming known for some of the most innovative and palate-pleasing cuisine in the industry, with an impassioned focus on providing restaurant-quality cuisine.

Everything about the facility is both beautiful and state of the art. Whether dining on a 4-star meal prepared by the GICC’s world-class culinary team or broadcasting your event on their 4-channel television network, the GICC offers only the best to its clients. Other highlight features include facility-wide WiFi internet access, event webcasting capabilities, fiber optic high-speed networking, video teleconferencing and custom event blogs and podcasts.

Whether you’re planning a corporate meeting or an elaborate celebration, the GICC has everything you need to create an exceptional event experience.
